Release. By Antosha. NC-17. Harry desperately needs to find a release from angst and sorrow. On the top of Stoatshead Hill, he discovers that Luna Lovegood has some very funny ideas about how to help. Post-Order of the Phoenix.

Rec'd by rainxtoday: The author stays true to Luna's outlandish canon-self. She practices yoga, tells about her adventures in Sweden searching for the Crumple-Horned Snorkacks with her parents, studies Sanskrit, and quotes the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit text. Plus, she's adorably unaware of how uncomfortable she can make others when she speaks her mind... especially Harry.

Shades of Purple. By Daphne23. G. How did he get in? When Sirius Black breaks into Hogwarts for the first time, the students are exiled to the Great Hall and purple sleeping bags. Amongst them Luna Lovegood, who is quickly formulating her own theories

Rec'd by Hannah: Luna here is just right. Not too dippy, but strange enough to be in character and to be amusing. It's a nicely sympathetic characterisation, and also takes into account that Luna in this fic is two years younger than when we first see her in canon.

And by Write_away_the_pain: Not being an avid Luna fan (mainly because of the severe drought of IC!Luna fics), I was surprised to find that I enjoyed reading that fic and hoped to find other more like it. Daphne left no ends untied and answered a few questions we've all had, but didn't really know it (Remember the Hibiscus Whateveris?).

Love by Numbers. By Dulcinea (judyhazeleyes). G. Sometimes, one plus zero equals two. A simple and silly fluffball drabble.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: Luna can make anyone like math, or arithmacy, as the case may be and she just that in this fic. And Hermione - poor Hermione is surprised to find that Luna devies all laws, even the laws of mathematics.

I Have Never Felt Your Fear. By Echo. R. Luna/Blaise. Draco/Ginny. Ginny learns a thing or two about what being a Slytherin can really be like through an unexpected source.

Rec'd by booknerdguru: There are no words. You'd have to read it to believe it. This is not a fic one should pass up. Warnings: side-splitting humor DO NOT EAT OR DRINK WHILE READING THIS FIC!!! + pervy humor.

And by Rambeling_Loon: Luna is the spacey one from the fifth book but she's so defend-y of her friends (Ginny) and can hold her own and just is a really awsome character and I love Echo's protrayal of her.

Rooms and Voices. By fuschia. R. Hermione seeks out Luna in the Department of Mysteries.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: In the Department of Mysteries, when faced with The Veil during Order of the Phoenix, Luna reinforced her connection to something quite otherwordly. In this trance-like story, this other-wordly Luna leads Hermione on the path to healing and love. It's a truly beautiful journey.

In the Morning, She Dances. By girlwholived. The petals fall to the ground, and she stops humming. All they notice is that shes quiet.

Rec'd by moonshadow_nal: What can I say, really? This is just a really beautiful insight into Luna's character, and how much she can handle before she'll finally snap.

What Raindrops Bring. By GreenCookie. Harry doesn't understand Luna Lovegood, he never has. Like everyone else, he thinks she's just plain loony. But come one rainy day, he finds her dancing in the rain, and he also finds a whole lot more.

Rec'd by moonshadow_nal: Luna in this is so incredibly Luna, with her way of coping with her classmates all being horrid to her. And she dances in the rain... which is always a good thing, right?

Players. By Isis (isiscolo). PG. Millicent finds an unlikely ally in Luna.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: Millicent Bulstrode, like Luna, is one of those characters that is often neglected personality-wise. Here, with the help of "Loony" Luna - a mere fifth year - Millicent manages to step out of her back drop cronie role and step into a spot light that's much more revealing - and much more Slytherin. Plus, there are sparkly things and kisses.

Strange Condition. By Lady Atropos. PG. Even imaginative young ladies can enter reality long enough to think theyve fallen in love.

Rec'd by Grayline: Luna speaks directly to us in this fic - we who think we're luckier and happier because we fit in with our peers and have friends who shelter us. Despite her seemingly random remarks in canon, Luna shows herself to be remarkably aware of herself here. She realizes that the general population considers her a weirdo and she remains fairly comfortable in this until her second year, when her resolve is tested by a desire to be liked by the kind new professor. The fic ends with a thought-provoking parallel across generations and some simple, poignant advice from a fellow outsider. In the end, Luna shows herself to be stronger than we ever knew.

Red Herring. By Laura Smith. NC-17. Just because there's a last laugh doesn't mean it's funny.

Rec'd by Manraviel: Though primarily R/Hr and F/Hr, Luna plays quite a big role in this fic. Her character is nothing like I've read before. Her apathy is strange and yet very like Luna. At first, I was a bit surprised to read of her agreeing with the plan, but finally, you can't help but respect her.

Hogwarts Apprentices I: Gentry Green. By Lisa Roquin. R. Harry learns some disturbing family history and returns to Hogwarts early before his 6th year for Apprentice Studies

Rec'd by moonshadow_nal: Even in canon, Luna so rarely talks about her mother that her heritage in this fic becomes incredibly believable. She talks to walls, as well, which is so odd that no one would consider it odd, coming from her. Even though she's not the central character, she's wonderfully written.

And by Manraviel: Though a side character, Luna is so like JK characterised her. She has these odd little powers, which can only belong to Luna. Like talking to portraits and Hogwarts itself, which is not considered odd by others because, well, it's Luna. A lot is tod of her family too, which is great as I've hardly read a fic that dwell into that aspect.

To Achieve Weightlessness. By Lissa22. PG. Luna raises Snape's spirits for a few fleeting moments with an unusual concoction. A light, humourous fic.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: Severus Snape, as his horrible, greasy-haired self, is no easy character to write, let alone to write right. And Luna? Pin-pointing Luna Lovegood in writing is easier said then done. Her character takes mucho finesse and more than just a bit of care. So finding a fic with both these characters, and written well no less, must mean, obviously, that this story is bloody brilliant. And also pretty funny too.

Unbroken. By memorycharm. PG-13. Luna/Draco, 14 Sickles, the lake, a full moon.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: Draco Malfoy is often characterized as a haughty, arrogant brat fooling himself by trying to follow in his father's footsteps. Here, a newer, stronger Draco is revealed. Of course, he's still a haughty, arrogant brat, but with the help of that ever so Loony Luna, Draco finds his own feet to stand on and a strength within himself that is sure to transform the follower in him into a leader. Oh, if we all had our own Luna to wish us stronger.

A Friendship Reforged. By michelle_31a. G. A "missing moment" from OotP, Ginny reflects on her relationship with Luna Lovegood.

Rec'd by abjaxx: This story — written in third person from Ginny's point of view — relates what "might have happened" with Ginny, Luna, and Ron at the Ministry; it also relates a conversation between Ginny and Luna before the train leaves at the end of the year. Luna is absolutely perfect. She seems to say everything and nothing at all, she remains calm and serene in the face of danger, and we see something of the intensity that I hope to see from Luna in the final two books of the series.

Ghouls and Bollywoggles. By michelle_31a. Hermione finds herself having to share Ginny's room with none other than Luna Lovegood. An encounter with one of the Burrow's more frightening residents ensures that forty winks will be hard to come by...

Rec'd by Manraviel: As always, Michelle once more manages to write the perfect Luna. Hermione's exasperation and then acceptance of Luna's eccentricities is excellently told. You want to laugh, and you want to shake your head, and yet, in the end, she makes perfect sense.

Knock Knock. By michelle_31a. G. Harry tries to tell a 'knock-knock' joke to Luna — 'tries' being the operative word!

Rec'd by NymphadoraKlutz: This Luna is logical like a true Ravenclaw, but also her clueless Luna-ish self.

Luna's Year. By michelle_31a. Luna Lovegood begins her fifth year at Hogwarts, for the first time with a circle of friends, though not without the accompanying dangers.

Rec'd by moonshadow_nal: michelle_31a is probably the best Luna-writer I've come across in the fandom, and this fic is probably the closest to canon sixth-year fic I've ever read. Luna's reactions, and her beliefs, are so well written that it's hard to believe that it's not JK Rowling herself, in disguise.

Mind's Eye, Soul's Reflection. By Mysterious Muggle. PG. "They say the eyes are the windows of the soul. But these pretty blue eyes of yours are just stained glass. It is the mind's eye that is clear. It is the only true window." Luna Lovegood is an outcast, a lost soul. Teased and misunderstood. Because she sees things that others can't. Past and present, dreams and reality, fact and fiction, all intermingle inside her head. What is the forgotten truth Luna is so desparte to find inside herself? And what does she see when she closes her eyes? Luna's fourth year, OotP from her point of view. (Alternate Point of View)

Rec'd by Norwegian Blue: The Luna in this fic, instead of being "Oh, that crazy old Luna. What are we ever going to do about her," it's the type of characterization where almost everything she does and thinks makes sense, and at some parts your heart almost breaks for her.

And by RoadOfTheLine: I love this Luna Lovegood fic! It is so lovely, and I haven't even read all of it yet! It's very, very good writing, and her depiction of Luna is just right... Hope you find it enjoyable! I did...

The Art Of Making People Shut Up. By Netgirl. G. Luna/Ginny. Luna's always been able to reduce Ginny to complete silence.

Rec'd by SkoosiePants: Adorable. And Luna. Luna is incredibly sharp, while staying her odd self, and she's extremely adept at handling Miss Ginny Weasley.

Pillars of the World. By Nimue150. A single spell can change the very essence of a thing evolution spent thousands of years creating. Magic makes all things fluid and subject to change- and Lisa Turpin learns that words can change lives just as instantaneously as magic, and that as one life falls apart, it may transform into another.

Rec'd by sanityinstrife: The story is focused on Lisa, and her turmoil (and well written to that as well) but Luna is a major plot point, subtly dispensed throughout. Luna is kept in character with her wild thoughts and theories, but you learn why. She has a depth, an underneath reason for one particular oddity she does. I don't want to give a lot away, but the fact that it brought back my faith as a reader on a day of bad fiction, to me, speaks volumes.

Butterbeer Caps. By Rashaka. R. Luna Lovegood drabbles, no order or connection.

Rec'd by abjaxx: As the summary says, "Butterbeer Caps" is (currently) twenty-eight drabbles about Luna. Some take place in the past, some in the unfathomable future, but Luna is always... Luna. I particulary enjoyed numbers 5, 12, 18, 20, and 23 ("Diary," "Lesson," "About Them Nargles," "Past: Name Poetry," and "I Fought the Law and the Law Won").

Immortality. By ReaderRavenclaw. G. Luna copes with the death of her mother.

Rec'd by michelle_31a: The characterisation is absolutely mesmerizing, and one can't help but wonder if we're seeing the genesis of one of Luna's beliefs in this story. It takes place a short time after the death of her mother, and is now one of my all-time favourite Lunafics. Please go have a look.

Sorted. By rho. G. It's the beginning of her first year, and Luna is being sorted. This is an account of what goes on under the hat.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: Readers of the Harry Potter series all know what happened with Harry under the sorting hat, but what about with a character like Luna Lovegood? This story is perfect in that the tale is short and sweet. And perfectly Luna as well.

Winter's Wonderland. By Sharp Tongued. PG. Christmas is always special. Especially for a Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.

Rec'd by SkoosiePants: There's a certain sweetly knowing, accidentally wise cast to Luna that is highlighted, just a bit, but Neville catching her off guard. Or catching them both off guard. Either way, it works.

Loony Lovegood and the Invisible Harblawengs. By slinkiestumble. PG. How Luna Lovegood got her nickname.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: Well, to start off, let me say I'm shameless, obviously, to be reccing my own fic. But I do love this story because it was so much fun to write and I really do think something like this could have happened to poor Luna. Kids are, afterall, unbelievably cruel - especially to the most unique of people, like dear Luna.

Vegetables and the Weather. By starrysummer. PG. Truth be told, Luna Lovegood hated radishes.

Rec'd by crazysexy_cool: One of the thing I adore about this fic is how utterly real Luna seems; she is neither too 'normal' nor too spacey, and I think the author does a wonderful job of portraying the world as Luna would see it.

A Different Kind of Insomnia. By S. Thanatos. He doesn't sleep. He doesn't really need to.

Rec'd by moonshadow_nal: She's not the focal character, but her way of dealing with grief can be seen, very believably, in this fic.

Perfectly Natural. By Sweets. R. Harry's been MIA for three years. Not one phone call. Not one letter. Then, one day he shows up in the bedroom of a certain witch who certainly wasn't expecting him. More than a little strange. Not for the younguns.

Rec'd by SkoosiePants: The way Luna handles the sudden reappearance of Harry - and what a reappearance it is - is wonderful, natural, the only way it could go. Strange, yes. Slightly cracked? Yeah, okay. Still, give it a try...

Luna Lovegood. By Taintless. PG. She does most of the things she wants to because she simply cant find a reason not to. A day of Luna's life in sixth year.

Rec'd by Hannah: This insightful one shot highlights both Luna's vulnerability and her strengths, and is written in a deceptively simple style. Her thoughts on other characters, including the teachers, are typically astute, and her interactions with Harry and Malfoy are in character.

Doors and Leaks. By Tarie. NC-17. It had been a long time since she had watched something or someone without them knowing she was there. But it hadn't been so long ago that the tingle in her belly from watching something or someone unaware wasn't familiar.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: First off, let me say, yes, this story can quite possibly be classified as porn of the voyeur sort. BUT, it is also quite possibly the most adorable porn story ever - and it is not lacking in subtextual depth. Funny and sexy all at once, Luna is perfect in her mixture of naivity and quirkiness - she just shines, really. And I doubt even Ronald - he of the most insane predictions - could have predicted a night like this.

Kohelet. By Telepwen. Severus Snape has long held that history is best left forgotten. It takes a confrontation with Luna Lovegood to teach him that sometimes, forgetting history can be fatal.

Rec'd by Thundergal4: Telepwen does a great job with creating a very down-to-earth Luna who is still very believable. Simple yet elegant.

Trespass Sweetly Urged. By Thistlerose (thistlefics). R. Ginny follows the butterfly.

Rec'd by slinkiestumble: Luna (and her unique tattoo) manage to mesmerize in this; to mesmerize the reader and to mesmerize a certain Weasley. When it comes to knowing and not knowing and Ginny? Ginny knows and this story tells all about it.

The Riddle's Sphinx. By LilyAyl. R. He sees her first among the captives. Lord Voldemort finds his 'sphinx' within a group of his enemies. He searches within the enigmatic girl for the answer to the question that pesters him. Unfortunately, only one answer exists. A twisted tale of proving life, expressing love through betrayal, and finding answers. (Luna/Voldemort -- of a sort) *Don't let the pairing of the "The Riddle's Sphinx" turn you off. It is quite possibly my favorite Luna fic... at the very least, the writing is exceptional and thought provoking.
