Playing With Fire. By Aidan Lynch. PG-13. Ron/Harry. Early one morning in his final year at school, Harry reflects on how he and Ron went from best friends to something more.

Rec'd by Manraviel: The reflection on the seven year's relationship between Harry and Ron, and how it evolved through time is very beautifully told. I like this because of its style of narration in the style of flashbacks. The flashbacks are so nicely woven into the story that the seven years of their lives flow out smoothly and wonderfully.

Not As a Last Resort. By Arabella. Hermione and Ron, a snowstorm, and Hagrid's cabin. Takes place during fifth year.

Rec'd by Moon Weasley: It's a very adorable one shot told from Hermione's POV, but I just love the way Ron's written here. It's very much like how teenagers with a crush behave; overanalyzing everything and slowly and clumsily trying to pluck up the courage to ask out the girl you fancy. Adorable! Also the sequel, Getting the Point, is well worth the read.

After the End. By Arabella and Zenya. Ron/Hermione. It's the summer after seventh year, and Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and the rest of the wizarding world must learn to live without fear.

Rec'd by Moon Weasley: Classic. It's not The Good Ship's bible for nothing...

Unbecoming. By Cinnamon. R. Ron/Draco. Denial and fear aren't such horrible things, especially when you've got alcohol and loneliness to hide behind. Ron is perfectly happy in the empty life he's made for himself, until Draco Malfoy takes one look at him and understands the things Ron fears even better than he himself does.

Rec'd by SkoosiePants: Ron is completely fucked-up and endearing, and he just can't seem to do anything right. His moments of panic, his stubbornness, his fear and misguided logic and fierce loyalty all shine through brilliantly.

Midnight Confessions. By Diricawl. PG. Gen with Ron/Hermione undertones. In the middle of the night, while recovering in the Hospital Wing, Ron and Hermione discuss Harry, Sirius, what happened in the Department of Mysteries, and Ron's inability to understand females.

Rec'd by narcissam: I can't say I'd thought much about what Ron and Hermione's reactions to the kerfluffle in the DoM would be. But then, I didn't have to think about it. Diricawl's done it for me! What struck me about "Midnight Confessions" is that it manages to be both fluffy and darkly undertoned. A typical round of light-hearted R/Hr bickering is employed by the two to dance away from how they both were hurt in the DoM. The only thing that matters to these two is Harry, and they'll put aside their own pain to support him. And in supporting Harry, they've learnt to support each other. A lovely look at trio friendship.

The first question that comes to my mind is, How much of a one-way street is the trio relationship? It strikes me more and more than Ron and Hermione give to Harry, and Harry is too busy with his problems to really reciprocate. My heart bled for the two when Harry snarked at them through parts of OotP. Is that overstating the case, and is Harry changing in regards to Ron and Hermione?

One of my favourite lines in "Midnight Confessions" is *"I was under the impression that everyone thought it was normal if I ate all the time."* Do you take that as evidence of insecurity on Ron's part or just a lightening joke? Or both? I think I'll take that third option.

Of Hearts and Heroes. By emmelyne. R. Ron/Hermione. In the days following the Department of Mysteries there is no respite for Harry, as a long lost relative with exceptional powers comes to change his life forever. Ginny learns she is not the plain outsider she thinks she is. And grief and fear lead to late night connections for Ron and Hermione.

Rec'd by Moon Weasley: I find the characterisation of Ron to be very close to canon. He's very much an insecure, slightly obtuse yet adorable teenage boy trying to figure out how he really feels about a certain someone in the midst of all the drama and action happening all around them. It's a work in progress but so far the plot seems well-thought out and intriguing.

Her Hero. By freelancer. PG. There were three friends. There were two badges. Why does Ron have one of them? Mid-OotP. Minor R/H fluffiness.

Rec'd by Manraviel: A very sweet fic with very canon!Ron. Describes beautifully his exhilaration on being a prefect and then his confusion as to why him and not Harry. Hermione is written nicely too.

Come Together. By Granger. PG-13. Harry/Hermione. It's four years after the Trio has graduated from Hogwarts, and they're about to live together again for the first time. But will old friends remain old friends... or will they become something more?

Rec'd by Anonymous: I love Ron's characterization this. Although it's a H/Hr story, and Ron is only secondary, his characterization is so in-canon, although a bit more sensitive. It's a great read.

The Art of War. By Hijja. PG-13. Wizard's chess in the Slytherin dungeons. Ron and Draco, both with an axe to grind. High stakes, dubious rules and psychological warfare. Painful consequences and strange encounters. If you've ever wondered whether it is a good idea to play games with Slytherins, this is the answer.

Rec'd by narcissam: Ron plays chess with Draco with frightening results. Draco is - a welcome change - ever so evil and Hijja writes the best Ron characterization I've ever read. There are so many fics that show Ron humiliated or opened to self doubt by Draco Malfoy, and I've routinely read and hated them. They just weren't about Ron, the Ron Weasley I love from the HP books. But this is. Humiliated, given to self-doubt but still... still... determined.

The Hat Trick. By Icarus. PG-13. Quidditch. Corruption. Ex-Cannons coach Ron Weasley knows far too much. Two years ago he was caught between his career and his girlfriend. Now he has another hard choice to make. The definition of a 'hat trick' in gambling: a risky, high-stakes bet.

Rec'd by Morrighan: I really like this one. We've got the trio, but Ron is definitely the main focus of the story; we've got the love of Quidditch, the ever existing problem with money, a bit of frustration, sense of loyalty and a little twist. Everything, plus a very canon!Ron. Not to mention the excellent writing.

Just Friends. By ivyblossom. R. Ron has a crush on Hermione.

Rec'd by FishOutOfWater: I love this fic because I feel like this captures his feelings and character in 4th-5th year perfectly.

They Just Don't. By JMA. R. Warnings: Rape, Language, Paedophilia, Incest. Ron deals with a rumour.

Rec'd by goldpeaches: I love this story, because it is one of the few stories in which Ron's in character. The truth about the rumor is discovered so slowly, it hurts. I felt like screaming at the author to tell me what's going on, and when I realised what happened it felt like a punch in the face.

Aftermath. By Josan. NC-17. Severus Snape finds out there's more to life than potions.

Rec'd by Thevina (thrihyrne): In "Aftermath," Josan paints an exquisite portrait of post-war Severus Snape and Ron, who (not to give too much away) is incredibly damaged psychologically as well as physically. It's through Severus' dedicated, patient ministrations and encouragements that allow Ron to heal, despite lingering Death Eater interactions. Josan interpolates various members of the Weasley clan in believable and heart-rending capacities, and though I'm probably the world's worst romantic, the ending of his story brings me to tears even after multiple readings. Her characterizations of both Ron and Severus are gorgeously written, consistent, and a joy to read. Please read and send her your feedback; you won't regret the time spent immersed in this story.

Unexpected. By kaalee. NC-17. Ron/Draco.

Rec'd by Thevina (thrihyrne): Ron in this story has suffered; both from Death Eater torture (thankfully off-screen, as it were), but also from his former partner/lover, who was the one who caused him to be captured. He's back at work at the Ministry, and who should show up to be his new partner but Draco Malfoy, also damaged, and the inter-personal/inter-work-environment relationship is refreshingly complex and, therefore, believable. Awkward. Mistrustful. Ron's a genius at encryption. Draco suffers from claustrophobia. Hotness eventually ensues, and it's so brilliantly masculine. I just can't enthuse enough about this story; it really is tremendous in attention to detail, and her vision of mid-20's, post-War Ron is exquisite.

Five Things That Never Happened To Ronald Bilius Weasley. By Kel. Ron/Harry, Ron/Viktor. Ron was watching Harry.

Rec'd by Manraviel: I love this fic so much because there is something very surreal in the way this "what-if" fic is written. It indulges in dry humour in some places and goes all angsty in others. And has an excellent ending.

Runaway Fox. By kirikarin. PG-13. Ron Weasley is one of the most successful businessmen in the world. He left home and England to make his fortune in the U.S., and he stopped communicating with his family and friends for five years. Will he ever come home again? Pre OotP & Complete.

Rec'd by sweetmisery2003: A wonderfully well written story that portrays Ron has a real person.

The Book of Morgan Le Fey. By LavenderBrown. PG-13. Ron, Harry and Hermione return to Hogwarts for their sixth year to find that Voldemort is hatching a diabolical scheme to rid the world of Muggles and assume power. As the Trio work together to find out Voldemorts plans and fight back, Ron must contend with his newly discovered feelings for his brainy, bushy-haired, bookworm best friend. Told from Ron's perspective.

Rec'd by sweetmisery2003: Very well written and portrays Ron in a real light. Not as a jealous jerk.

Circles of Power. By Mad Martha. PG-13. Ron/Harry. As trainee Aurors, Harry and Ron face unexpected challenges.

Rec'd by netbyrd: This and the entire "Aurors" series features a Harry/Ron relationship, and the Ron characterization is quite witty. He is a bundle of energy and love and a bit of jealousy in this fic, and I just love this type of Ron characterization.

And by Manraviel: Excellent Harry/Ron fic where Ron is portrayed as a mature person without the angry!ignorant!Ron fandom cliche. And the plot is excellently drawn out. The physical aspect of the relationship is very subtly described and the fic dwells more on the plot than the ship, but the characterisations are excellent.

Two Households, Both Alike In Dignity and Two Households II: Two Weeks Over Easter. By Mad Martha. PG-13. Ron/Harry. 1) That very first day on the Hogwarts Express, Harry shook Draco Malfoy's hand and became a Slytherin. Ron has hated him ever since. But Harry doesn't hate Ron... 2) Harry spends Easter with his godparents and things become rather more exciting than any of them bargain for.

Rec'd by Moonshadow-NAL: I like Ron in this because he's both in-character and completely unlike any other Ron I've read before. Possibly the only H/R fics I've ever liked. Ron is suspicious and nasty (mainly to Malfoy), but he's also sometimes really nice, and he agrees to give Harry a chance, even though he's never liked him.

Pariah. By MaeGunn Batt. R. Ron/Pansy. Nothing about Pansy Parkinson's seventh year is going right.. For starters, there is a Weasley Situation that must be dealt with, NEWTs are looming over the Seventh Years' heads, and the terrifying menace of reality threatens to take down the castle of Hogwarts stone by stone. And to make matters worse, the new fifth year Slytherin prefect has the hots for Draco. Her name is Teeny Nott, the second most wicked being on the planet, and she is out to get Pansy Parkinson any way she can. When Slytherin House turns against Pansy Parkinson, she vows to get revenge - even if it means seeking the help of a Weasley. Welcome to the politics of teenage Slytherin girls, but be warned: here there be catfights.

Rec'd by Calliope14: A wonderful chaptered Ron/Pansy fic that has incredible characterization of both Ron and Pansy.

Flame and Shadow. By Maya. NC-17. Ron/Pansy. Sometimes the losers get lucky.

Rec'd by biggerstaffbunch: On FAP, she usually writes Harry/Draco centric stuff, but her Ron/Pansy fic "Flame and Shadow" is fantastic. Ron is all at once confused and frusturated at how the image of his life is shattered - how he isn't at all living the life he thought he could. He is raw and passionate but at the same time, so clueless and all noble in his intentions and twisted in logic and just... and just quite yummy for a fictional character.

Points of No Return. By Night Zephyr. PG-13. Almost sixteen, Ron discovers there really is something very special about him, and he just might need it to save them all.

Rec'd by netbyrd: I just love Ron in Night Zephyr's stories, particularly "Points of No Return." It is yet another fic about Ron discovering some type of seer power, but I love how he is written. The characterization has a bit of insecurity, loyalty and support to Harry, a tentatively developing relationship with Hermione, and also features Ron's loyalty to someone who needs his help. This was one of the first fanfictions that I read that didn't kill off Ron or make him overly jealous and evil.

And by hpe_928: One of the reasons why I LOVE this fic is because for once Ron finds his place in the trio. He finds out something about himself that helps in realise that he really is an imperative person in the trio. For once he's the hero and he's recognised for it which is something I hope to happen in canon. Also, NightZephyr writes his relationship with Hermione so wonderfully.

Knights. By Odyssea. G. The impact of chess on Ron Weasley's life.

Rec'd by Sharp Tongued: Ron understands the rules of battle through chess. As the knight, he protects the white king, who is the only player than stop the black queen from overtaking the board. For once, Ron's not jealous but accepting of his role. That makes it a favorite for that characterization alone. Short, but to the point, and well done to boot.

The Prophecy of Absconditus. By Page of Cups. R. Ron/Draco, Harry/Blaise. Absconditus collapsed in 372 A.D. For hundreds of years, history passed into legend. Now these visions haunt Ron Weasley's dreams. The past has a strange way of repeating itself.

Rec'd by Moonshadow-NAL: Why I like Ron in this? I think it's because we finally have weird things happening to Ron, rather than Harry. Also, the relationship between Ron and Draco is actually believable, as is Ron's relationship (completely platonic) with Harry.

And by SkoosiePants: Ron is incredibly strong in this. He has to deal with a past life crashing into his current one, as well as almost crippling visions, and is forcibly paired with Draco in more ways than one. And yet he still maintains his humor and insecurities and the stubbornness that makes him inherently Ron.

The Safest Place. By Pandora J. PG. Ron/Hermione. Post OotP. Lots of fun with lots of Weasleys. Another summer at Grimmauld Place. Tonks and Hermione get caught in the first wave of attacks. Fred and George take charge. Ron gets an unexpected late night companion.

Rec'd by Manraviel: Another missing scene fic where Ron comforts Hermione. Really made me believe in the inevitability of the ship.

Turning back around. By PumpkinCarver. R. Ron/Hermione. Five years after finishing Hogwarts Hermione, Ron, Harry & Ginny find themselves caught up in something that threatens to encompass their lives and calls into question why they have chosen to follow the paths they are on now.

Rec'd by Moon Weasley: Work in progress with excellent plot and good characterizations all around. Shows us a grown-up Ron who's more mature and serious than how he's normally portrayed.

War and Passion. By RedBlaze. NC-17.

Rec'd by a_is_for_amy: I love this fic for its characterization of Ron - most fics tend to make him a whiner and jealous or just generally comic relief. This fic put him in a place of power, as a major player against the dark side. A horrific attack on himself and Harry leads Ron to alter his whole way of life, and take charge of his destiny by training to become a War Mage. Along with Harry and Hermione and a whole cast of others (including Alive!Sirius), Ron becomes a force to be reckoned with without completely taking him out of character.

Being powerful doesn't solve all of his problems, though, and that's what makes this story great. While the main plot is about Harry and Ginny, there is plenty on scenes with Ron in it. War and Passion is complete, and Fire and Ice is in the works, though the author is slow to update. F&I is basically the same story, told from the viewpoint of Ron and Hermione - also worth a look!

Dragons by Rhoddlet. PG-13. Ron/Harry. Dragons in the hills of Romania and dragons in the heart of boys.

Rec'd by SkoosiePants: I love Rhoddlet's writing. I love how she makes the complex simple, and can pretty much break my heart with a turn of phrase. What I took away most from this was Ron's strength. His independence and non-accepting acceptance. And this is just gorgeous all over.

Rebirth. By SaraEK. NC-17. Ron/Hermione. The demons of his past haunt him even as he strives to do what is right, but as the end approaches, he finds only she can save his soul, testing the boundaries of a love and friendship that border on the brink of destruction.

Rec'd by sweetmisery2003: This is a wonderfully written dark fic. I love the relationship between Ron/Hermione and even though there is H/G it's written in a way that I, as a non-h/g shipper, can handle.

Just Ron. By SelDear. G. He's 'just Ron'. And sometimes, he hates it.

Rec'd by eska_rina: I like the way SelDear has written the story its so simple and how she/he explains Rons feelings about his family, friends and everything else around him.

Welcome. By Silvia Kundera. PG-13. Ron/Hermione. Ron in a post-Hogwarts world.

Rec'd by narcissam: I always say I'm not into the fluff, but yeah, I guess I am, since this fic reduced me to squeeing soppiness. It's beautiful and reminded me why I ship R/Hr - hadn't thought about shipping for a long time. It's the love for the ordinary life that shines through here.

It is, by the way, second person point of view, and unlike most uses of that POV draws me in rather than pushing me away, causing me to identify with Ron. I wonder if it's intrinsic to the story itself or just because there's a high degree of autobiographical congruency at work here. After all, my family is remarkably like the Weasleys and I share a lot of the feelings and experiences that are detailed in the fic. Waking up late for breakfast, running out, and having to scrounge cookies at work, for example. The 'you' really did become for me, not only Ron, but all of us who have normal, boring lives and like them.

It's a familiar, comfortable story. Wistfulness mixed with satisfaction. And a good dose of humour.

Ronald Bilius Weasley: Elite of the Few. By slowfox. Short Ron ficlet.

Rec'd by eska_rina: Its funny. Sort of. And I like the voice in the fic. I can imagine that as Ron's voice if he was really proud of something.

Prime Time Deliverance. By V. Ron/Seamus. Seamus gets dumped.

Rec'd by SkoosiePants: Ron is sweetly infatuated. This has adolescent normalcy, humor, and Ron's just slightly pathetic, accepting, and, well... I was just really charmed by this fic. Nothing earth-shatteringly profound, or even strictly canonical, but I loved this Ron. *Ron was pretty sure whatever he'd been doing to Seamus, it wasn't ignoring him.*

Time. By V. Ron/Harry. Ron waits it out.

Rec'd by SkoosiePants: Ron doesn't feel anymore, and this is possibly the most heartbreaking short I've ever read. And at the same time... at the same time, you can see the blame mixing with the acceptance. *Best friend, it said. Most loyal, it said. To the end, it said.* It's almost the inevitable.
